The Howard City Library Book Club will discuss Jodi Picoult’s Lone Wolf on October 18 at 6:30 in the city library. Everyone is welcome.
Picoult masterfully tells a beautiful, gut-wrenching story of a life hanging in the balance while the family is torn apart deciding whether to continue hopelessly pursuing medical intervention or to grant the comatose victim his previously expressed wishes that he not be kept alive on machines.
But the family has been ripped apart previous to the accident. Edward Warren, the 24-year-old son, is living in Asia when he gets the news of his father’s accident. Edward proposes to withdraw medical support; Edward’s 17-year-old sister, Cara, fights to keep her father alive.
Picoult contrasts the family’s struggle with the life cycle of wolves. Lone Wolf explores the essence of family and the strength of the love, protection and nurturing that a strong family provides. But what happens when the family battles reason?
Lone Wolf is another unforgettable story about family, love and letting go.
