Sunday, May 13th – Motherhood & Mother Nature
These perennial forces have beensupporting one another for over a century at Bar
It’s a crafternoon like non other.
The Arboretum is always on parade for Mother’s Day and this year promises to be the best yet. Most of our beloved Art at the Arb vendors will be back to exhibit their delightful handmade crafts on Sunday, May 13. Sample wine from Tuscany, Napa Valley and Kansas’ own Wheat State Winery while enjoying three female crooners – one Country, one Rocker, one Folksinger.
A veteran in the Oklahoma jazz circuit, Janet Rutland, will open the show. She performed “Always Patsy Cline” regionally for over 13 years and is a sought-after chanteuse of the Great American Songbook.
Next, Wichita’s own Jenny Wood is nothing short of the real deal. She is a smoking hot guitar player with a voice to match and a whistle that’ll harken the heron back home.
Bartlett Arboretum steward, Robin Macy, has a few new songs up her gardening sleeves and will close out the show – as has become tradition. See what she and the Soil Sisters have done with these hallowed grounds since your last visit.
In addition, you can step into the Depot for a new art/prose exhibit entitled Garden Plots from our friends Tom Averill & Clint Ricketts. Pen and ink and watercolor accompany poems, rants, meditations and parables. Enjoy the garden as art and as word while at Bartlett – a long-standing inspiration for Averill’s literary work.
Gates open at noon.
$10 but wee ones free if under wing.
Music at 4 PM.
Free freshly dug tulip bulbs for all mums, so pack a tote sack.
Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lawn. Food trucks will also be available – Luciano’s, Little Lion Ice Cream, Lyon’s Den BBQ, David’s Street Tacos and Freddy’s Frozen Custard.
Sorry. No pups on the weekend.
